Edgar’s Bakery was founded in 1998 in Birmingham, Alabama by Terry and Dottie Smith. Terry has said, “If you are asking if I had some great vision of this huge bakery…I would have to say no. All that I knew was that God was calling me to move into my own business and I obeyed. I didn’t have big plans but, obviously, God did.” Terry, with the encouragement and support of his wife, Dottie, followed his heart and was met by a series of blessings confirming his decision to open his own bakery. Together they established what is now repeatedly noted as Birmingham’s premier bakery in publications such as Birmingham News, Birmingham Weekly, and Parent’s Connect.

From a single location, Edgar’s reputation for delicious cakes has quickly spread throughout the Southeast. In April 2013, Edgar’s Bakery opened in Tuscaloosa, their first location outside of the Birmingham area. Our guest book boasts customers from Atlanta, Nashville, Miami, New York, Charleston, and all over the country. Edgar’s has been featured in publications including Southern Lady, Birmingham Magazine, Portico, B-Metro, TeaTime, Entertain Decorate Celebrate, and Romantic Homes, and has frequently participated in segments on Birmingham news programs.

With six locations and frequent customer requests for more, we view our growth as validation of our foundational commitment to high quality and genuine service. Dottie stated that, “We will never expand for expansion sake, but we will always keep an open ear to meeting our customer’s needs.”
